How Often Should You Dry Clean Your Wardrobe Essentials?

Posted on Posted in Blog

The way you dress speaks volumes about your personality. An un-ironed shirt or dirty shoes give off a sloppy look. A stained shirt makes you look unprofessional. But managing a 9 to 5 job and staying on top of laundry duty can seem an impossible chore.

So when do you decide it is time to dry clean your clothes? Here are a few guidelines to help you decide when your clothes need cleaning.

1. Dress Pants and Skirts

If the fabric of your pants is stain-repellant, there is no need to frequently wash them. You can wear them four to five times before sending them off for dry cleaning.

2. Formal Wears

Formal wears need to be washed more often due to their delicate fabric. Ideally, you should wash them after every wear, but if you are a procrastinator like the rest of us, you can wear them two to three times.

3. Dress Shirts and Blouses

Your dress shirt can survive two wears without dry cleaning if you are wearing an undershirt. But if you aren’t, it needs to be washed after every wear.

You don’t want to wear a black shirt with sweat marks on it! Your blouses need dry cleaning after two wears, tops.

4.  PJs and Sleepwear

It depends on how long you wear them. But typically, it can be worn for 3 days before needing a wash. Although if you are one of those people who spend their Sundays in PJs, then try washing them more often.

5. Stockings and Socks

Our feet are typically the sweatiest part of our body. The moist and dark environment inside shoes is ideal for fungal growth. This fungal growth can cause infections like athlete’s foot, ringworm, and yeast infection.

6. Swimwear

Swimming pools have a high concentration of salt and chlorine, which causes fabric deterioration. To save them from losing their elasticity and color, wash them after every wear.

7. Workout clothes

Workout and all sport related activities cause you to sweat far more than you normally do. So if you don’t want your body to be “lunch” for bacteria and fungi, wash your clothes every day.

8. Jeans and Jackets

Your denim does not need frequent washing. They can be worn 5 to 6 times before they need dry cleaning. Skinny jeans, however, has a higher chance of collecting bacteria because it is closer to your skin. Try washing it more often.
